Introduction

Italy has hundreds of miles of coastline to dive and explore, the mainland coast, the Aeolian Islands, Sicily and Sardinia. This section will detail what is essentially a beginner's dive in Taormina, Sicily.

Sites

Isola Bella Bay, Sicily

 

Down to 12 metres, this dive location is excellent for try dives or to take your preliminary dive course. The water is calm and the conditions are ideal for beginners. This is where I learnt to dive. The snorkelling here is also excellent. Plenty of fish and urchins to keep you interested.

Equipment

A 5mm wetsuit, dive knife, hood, gloves and booties are all recommended.

Visibility

Visibility on the best days can reach up to 25 metres in the Mediterranean and as such is a treat for divers.

Water Temperature

The water ranges from 14c in the spring to about 24c in the summer.
